Is religion still playing an important role for us?

Many religions have existed before in the past, many of them have been forgotten or passed on in favor of new religions and new gods. Mainly due to our advancement in science and ever increasing understanding of our environment and world.

So is religion still playing an important role for us today as it did for us 1000 years ago? Or 2000 or 5000 or 10000 years ago?

for me personally it does not. of course relgion has still important death cult, i would feel bad throwing my dead granma on the hill and let her rot in the sun instead of bury her on a graveyard. in muslim countries i think religion has way higher priority ...

Until all humans learn to embrace the fact that we live in a world of science, religion is still necessary to bring some spiritual calmness to the world. However that doesn't mean religion should try to be forced onto those who do not want it or have rules which tries to deny many facts and truths.
